Get Windows 8 design and development help through Generation App

Pete Brown - 22 August 2012

The platform is new. The design aesthetic is new. Many of us could use some architecture or design consultation when building Windows 8 apps. My friend Andrew Duthie pointed me to a Microsoft service called "Generation App". This is something we offer to help you get started building apps, and to help you get quality apps into the store early ( which may help you to earn more money with your app).

Here's what you can get:

  • Insider tips and tricks on Windows 8 application development.
  • Personal on-the-phone access to a Windows 8 architect. *
  • An exclusive one-on-one Metro style design consultation. *
  • An opportunity to get expert help from a Microsoft Services Engineer at an App Excellence Lab.

* See Generation App site for restrictions and limitations

So this means that developers can get design help, and designers can get development help, and everyone can make their apps more beautiful and more functional. I like it.

If you live in the US, are 18 or older, have an app idea, and want some assistance building your next great app, visit Generation App, sign up, and start building. Or, take your current work, make it better, and get it to the Windows Store earlier, and at a higher quality.

    Thanks!

The downloadable source code will be available with the final manuscript; it's not downloadable at the moment. Is there a specific example you're interested in?

Another MEAP update will be coming soon; lots of changes there, for the better and for the release bits :)

I don't have extra computer to install the Windows 8 RTM now.
Could I use Virtual Machine (such as VirtualBox )to install the Windows 8 RTM. and VS2012 Express to try ?
    Any suggest Virtual Machine software?

Yes, you can install Windows 8 RTM in a virtual machine, or as a dual boot. Visual Studio 2012 for Windows 8 is freely downloadable.

I don't have any specific VM recommendations, but I know folks have used VMWare.

    Pete
