    I lived in Ghana for 3 years and traveled to a few countries include Niger which was SAID to be on the edge of the Sahara, but it was DESERT. On return I often told people in the US that they didn't realize how big Africa was. My way of pointing that out was to say that you could pretty much plop the US into the Sahara. That map shows just about the same thing. Also I can say from my teaching in Africa that the people there know more about their country, their continent and the world than most citizens of the US. Sad really, and doesn't bode well for the future, AT ALL.
