The larger group that I'm in, Server and Tools Online in the
developer division, supports a large number of properties. One of
our largest is MSDN. Scratch that. MSDN is enormous.
It provides support for every single developer tool we offer.
You'll find full documentation, samples, aggregated blog posts,
articles, community content, forums, videos and more. I've never
seen another learn...

Earlier this month, I put together my first C++ sample in about a hundred years.
I did that using win32 and Visual Studio 2010. Why? Well, a
surprising number of folks are doing real work on impressive
applications in C++, and not just inside Microsoft. Some are even
working on refacing C++ applications with
WPF.
Besides, it's good to learn, or re-learn, new things. It often
gives yo...

I recently published two new interview videos on Channel 9, both
with product team folks here at Microsoft. You'll also see that
I've redone the video overlays to bring them in line with my site
theme. Love it? Hate it? Let me know.
Henry Sowizral
The first is with Henry Sowizral. Henry and I
chat about what it takes to take a real application, with tons of
legacy C, C++ and even a...

This is Windows Client Developer roundup #15. I had so much to
send out this week, I decided to do a special edition.
I'll be at MIX10 next week. Be sure to watch the keynote
at MIX (usually broadcast live), as well as the sessions once they
are posted (typically by the end of the week). Stay tuned to the MIX
website.

When I went to my first college (more on why it was the first
shortly), I used to play on a lot of MUDs. MUDs (Multi-User
Dungeons) were the thing for on-line gaming at the time. The
only other real alternative were BBS-based games (usually
turn-based) or forking over serious cash to play checkers on
CompuServe. This was pre-commercial internet (1990/1991), so MUDs
were full of computer...

The last time I wrote C++ code that ran on Windows, the compiler
came in a box that looked like this:
(interesting in buying that? This person has it for sale)
No, it didn't cost $49.95, that was just a special offer on an
add-on. I seem to recall it was more like $700. Yes, the box was
enormous. It weighed almost 25 pounds. It was full
of printed paper manuals. Oh, and you ne...

Prior to joining Microsoft, I worked at a consulting company for a bit over 13 years. Prior to that, I started the IT department at a medical billing company and worked there for 4 years while completing my Computer Science degree. Seeing Scott’s post on past work he did years ago at SparkFun and 800.com got me to thinking about some of the interesting projects I’ve been on. I’ve been a develo...

Last week, I opened a very unscientific poll on Twitter asking what MS technologies developers were using to build their current in-progress applications. It was retweeted about within the Silverlight community, but also with broader reach folks like Scott Hanselman, Brad Abrams, and Phil Haack, as well as a few people in the Windows Forms community. (Please note that I allowed for multiple ...
